# 07 Anticlastic Curved Panelisation

Advance construction - 7th semester

This exercise explores how complex architectural form can emerge through the interaction of geometry, computation, material and making. We began by generating an anticlastic saddle surface and developing multiple iterations through AI-assisted prompting and HTML-based coding. Then selected iterations were evaluated for spatial and formal potential, after which one system was developed further by decoding its panelisation, material behaviour and joinery logic. The chosen geometry was then translated into a functional architectural proposal, testing how its computational rules could inform fabrication, assembly and inhabitation. The process culminated in the development of a built prototype, connecting digital exploration with material realisation.

Anticlastic curved panelisation
An anticlastic curved panelisation system is a doubly curved surface where the two principal curvatures bend in opposite directions, forming a saddle-like geometry with negative Gaussian curvature. In panel-based design, the surface is subdivided into interconnected panels that approximate or follow this opposing curvature, enabling efficient fabrication, structural stiffness, and load distribution across complex freeform geometries.
